Hey people! This is a thread for people with computers under warrenty!

You probably don't realise it, but it's true, computers collect tons of dust! On average, computers have an airflow of about 30 CFM. This isn't much, but if you have computers that have a warrenty stamp on it, dust will keep on building up inside, as you are not cleaning it.

First simptoms that you are getting an overheated CPU, is that your fans are really loud. If you don't react in time, taking the computer to a cleanup, you might end up with a fried CPU, or a damaged fan.

I recomend that you take your computer for a cleanup at least once every six months.

I had the opportunity to open a computer after a one year warenty expired and... words can't describe what I have seen.

Just take a look and please reply your view on the subject at hand.

My video card fan died from too much dust.

People shouldn't clean their cases only if they are under warrenty... Everyone should get their computer(s) cleaned up.

In fact, if the computer is under warrenty, then it really doesn't matter if it overheats, does it?

Anyway, I took all the keys off my keyboard too. Whoa, it was gross under there.

I recommend everyone clean their keyboards. Else you might start creating new forms of bacteria...

thats not so bad, i have seen WAY worse than that. Take that amount of dust and add in a heavy smoker. all of the plastic inside had been stained yellow :)

I solved my dust problem, now i only have to clean it once a year. i just bought a sonata case. that front air filter really does the job :)

I did try adding air filters but they only help so much.
well .. it also depends on the dust level from iside your house.

If you have a house with central air and an air filter on it you are in good shape. but living in an appartement with no central air and 10m away from a busy street ... filters or no filters ... you will still have a computer full of dust.

I personally don't have any problems because i open the case all the time and when i do i also clean it .

But every now and than i have to clean the fans they get full of dust inside and they get darn loud.

i know there will be condensation ... but double panneling will help ... and as long as the condensation won't be in the case it's fine. but as I sayd ... plans aren't done yet!

You'd be surprised...

So many smokers came into where I service computers, with their computer. The CPU fried, because they smoked near the computer.

Something about the smoke, it mixes with the dust in the air, and makes it sticky and thick. It then builds up inside your computer. As does it, in your lungs.

You smoke AMDX... uberCanuck?

Dalponis! you are right about smoke making the dust stiky. The first place it builds up ios between the CPU Fan and the heat sink. Unfortunetly you can't spot it very easily. I should have taken a picture of the CPU heatsink before i cleaned it.
In short ... No air was passing through it!

thats bad. But here's my problem.

1. all the computer stores overcharge way to much for the compressed air stuff
2. the only decent place (costco) is out of stock and haven't gotten anymore yet :(

so i am stuck with living with the dust :(

Actually if your in Kitchener you can walk down to Alpine Rd and go to Techno Trade and Pick up Compressed Air for like $5. I used to buy it, but for some reason my PC doesn't collect dust any more, so I haven't cleaned it since I put it together in December. I mean I haven't cleaned the inside at all, though I do open it and take a peek once in a while. I think I'll clean it on its birthday.

:D

Technotrade is pretty decent with prices, I bought all my parts there to put together my PC which is somewhat better in some aspects than Dalponis' (My vid card is a GeForce 6600, his is 6800, but its close enough :D). The thing cost me 1009.83 with tax :D I was happy at the price since the closest computer they had to it at bestbuy was $1599.99 + tax, so I think i saved some cash, and it only took about 45 mins of ready very very small letters on the MoBo to figure out how to put everything together (the jumpers where a bitch because the manual was really really bad).

Sorry, still getting used to the fact that Non-Kitchener people go to Conestoga. I'm fresh out of Highschool so I've still got that mentality.
